Pasture to Plate: Macrobiotic bowls from the Farm
Macrobiotic Bowls from the Farm 7/8
Macrobiotic eating is more of a philosophy than a diet. This ancient Buddhist way of eating focuses on eating whole grains, land & sea vegetables and fermented foods while reducing your intake of processed foods, sugars and animal products.
We will prepare a meal using these guidelines and talk about the health benefits of eating clean, unprocessed foods. Using locally grown grains we will build a seasonal and hearty meal out of the vegetables from the farm and incorporate fermented foods such as miso and kimchi to create rich umami flavor. We will be cooking with sea vegetables grown on the island and talk about the health and environmental benefits with Cottage City Oysters who commercially grow sugar kelp.
Our Monday culinary education programing will focus on the bounty of the season and the unique flavors of Martha's Vineyard. We will coordinate our classes with the growing seasons of our farm to highlight seasonal, sustainable and healthy food practices. Participants will learn new and exciting ways to source and prepare food. Space is limited for these hands-on meals, pre-registration is required.
